Fudge retailer finds sweet spot online

A Gore business has started selling its wares online due to the Covid-19 lockdown and the results have been sweet.

Sweet Southern Fudge owner Melissa Storer said she had set up a website to keep business going.

“I’m not very good with computers but I worked it out,” Ms Storer said.

She began selling online during Alert Level 3 and the results had been “great”.

“I was getting about 10-15 orders a day in Level 3.”

This was more than the usual fudge sales she made in her shop, although the shop also sold other New Zealand-made products.

“Orders have come from all over the country, as far away as Auckland,” she said.

“People remember my fudge.

“It’s all made in the kitchen at home.

“Mother’s Day was a great one for sales.”

She was planning to keep the online store running through Level 2 and beyond.

That future was uncertain, however.

“I am worried about it.”

“All the markets and events that I would usually sell at have been cancelled.”

Her physical store would reopen in Level 2 and she hoped people would have a sweet tooth.
