Having three identical 1974 Holden Premier HQs as their wedding cars was the inspiration for Keith and Jocelyn Falconer, of Tapanui, to buy their latest acquisition three years ago.
Keith and Jocelyn Falconer were married in 1974.
Mr Falconer said the car had been sitting in a shed for about 10 years out the back of Clydevale.
“The 253 V8 stock-standard motor had had a on it, then it ended up in storage.
“It took me about two minutes to get it going again simply with a new battery and some gas,” he said.
When they first bought the Holden it was not quite the same colour as the wedding cars. It has since been repainted depicting the same blue, Mr Falconer said.
Mrs Falconer had always wanted the same type of car they had used on their special day 45 years ago.
“I couldn’t resist getting this one. It was too good to be true, same year and everything,” she said.
“Having this great car will bring back so many memories.”
Other than the repaint, the front seats were reupholstered, door linings renewed and new carpets installed.
“Overall, it wasn’t in too bad a condition,” Mr Falconer said.
“It’s not too far away from getting back on the road, then we will enjoy taking it out for a bit of a cruise,” he said.
