Five days in Auckland, six games of basketball, no wins, but it was time well spent.
That was the experience of St Peter’s School pupils Ethan Mitchell (16) and Taylor Peterson (16), who were selected for the Southland under-17 basketball team that went to the nationals in North Harbour, Auckland for five days of serious basketball over the school holidays.
Taylor said it was a big step up from playing in the Eastern basketball team.
“We got to learn some really good and helpful tactics,” he said.
Ethan said attending the nationals was very productive.
“It was a great learning curve for the future, and we made some new friends from all over the country.
games, we know that we got really close. It was just the last quarter [in all the games] and the pressure let us down.”
The boys said although this was the last year they could play in the under-17 squad they were both keen to trial for the under-19 team next year.
