In elections, everyone has a part to play

And the candidates are all in! Last week saw the deadline for nominees standing in the local election, from council, community board, MLT to health and environment representatives.
‘ Awesome to see these young people
out taking their opportunities and
nailing it. ‘
Now it is up to you to make your choice but remember you are not picking who you will spend your holidays with, you are choosing people to represent you in your community.
We also need to remember that our candidates are human, have families and are not experts in every aspect of developing our community so remember to focus on the important stuff — does the candidate share your values and hopes and will work hard to represent all people, embracing diversity.
And for the uninitiated, if you are registered, then you vote. You do not have to own land; everyone’s opinion counts.
In the meantime, Mataura young people have been out and about keeping us proud, Albert Qoro was selected for the South Island U17 training camp, Heath Roberts was named the fairest and best player of the 2016 league season for Southland and the shots of Renae Wanahi on TV at the kapa haka nationals were spine-tingling. Awesome to see these young people out taking their opportunities and nailing it.
