A special treat will be in store for those attending the Southern Districts Arts Trust annual poetry day.
The Rouseabouts, who were seen on Country Calendar last year, will be performing at the event held at the Tokanui Tavern on Sunday.
The group from the Manawatu, which performs poetry, comedy, music and story-writing, comprises poets Chris Gallavin and Tim Saunders and musician Paul Turner.
Trust publicity officer Lianne Andrews said the trust was very excited the band had agreed to come to Southland.
“Considering they have been on TV, I think we are very lucky to have secured them to come down here, Andrews said.
“They’re obviously quite well known.”
The poetry day had been held for the past 15 years and having the band perform was different from what had been on offer in other years, she said.
The event was always well-supported, people from as far away as Te Anau attending.
The poetry readings, where people can share poems, will start at 2pm and The Rouseabouts will perform from 6pm.
The event is being supported by the arts trust and the Mataura Licensing Trust.
