A unique dance fitness programme is coming to Gore for a one-day workshop.

The programme, called CaraMayan, is a gentle exercise programme that combines easy dance techniques with music and Bible scriptures.

The workshop will be run by Mary Jones, International Christian Dance Fellowship (ICDF) founder, and will be held at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Gore on March 9, as part of a New Zealand tour.

National co-ordinator Belinda Andrews said the organisation is excited to have Mrs Jones share her programme with New Zealanders.

‘‘We are thrilled to have Mary run a series of workshops for her excellent gentle movement exercise programme here in NZ.

‘‘Mary is a visionary pioneer who has created a unique exercise programme that aims bring healing tothe mind, soul and body,’’ she said.

Mrs Jones, who is from Australia, launched the CaraMayan programme in 2009 as an alternative to yoga and tai chi.

The programme is suitable for all ages and can be done both indoors and outdoors.

The workshops will cover all the basics and include an extension for those interested in training as instructors.

Gore dance teacher Annette Ainge said she was looking forward to the event.

‘‘Its something new for Gore. We are one of 10 centres Mrs Jones will be touring, and we are excited to learn about CaraMayan.’’
