Surprise food bank delivery

Welcome gifts. . . Gore Salvation Army Corp’s community worker Kaye Byron (left) and major Glenys Fairhurst were surprised with a visit from a whanau group of St Peters College pupils who with their teacher Jo Carter (back row second from right) walked to the corps bringing some cans of food for the foodbank last week. Pupil said each of the whanau groups each had to come up a project for Christian service morning. ‘‘My whanau class has done a canned food drive with our school community. ‘‘It’s really good to help out our community and obviously around this time of year, nearer Christmas, there are lots of people who are struggling.’’ Mjr Fairhurst said food bank staff appreciate the pupils’ efforts. ‘‘It really is encouraging to see young people of this generation learning about giving to others... to be a blessing to others and not think about themselves.’’
