Bagrie-Howley wins 21st Southland title

Sheldon Bagrie-Howley has two more wins under his belt after bowling his way to his 20th and 21st Southland titles as well as a national qualification.

The Gore bowler went to Invercargill to play in the Southland Champion of Champions men’s pairs on Saturday and the Southland Open men’s singles on Sunday, both of which he won.

‘‘I’m pretty rapt with it to be fair,’’ he said.

His win on Saturday with partner Elliot Mason means he now qualifies for the national Champion of Champions men’s pairs later this year.

‘‘I’ve lost the final in it once before so hopefully I can get it this time.’’

The two of them had to play consistently during the competition on Saturday, he said.

‘‘We had a couple of tough games but we won the final quite convincingly,’’ he said.

On Sunday he was ‘‘in really really good form’’.

‘‘No-one got to doubledigits score-wise.’’

He was grateful to the Mataura Licensing Trust for supporting him and helping him get this far. His two victories mean he is now sitting on 21 Southland titles.
