Organisers are celebrating the running of a successful Northern Southland Pony Club Show on Saturday.

The 53rd show was held at Lumsden.

Club president Margaret O’Connor said entries were up on last year with 127 riders and 154 horses taking part.

“It was amazing given the Covid restrictions we had to put in place.

“It’s the first show of the season and it’s always well supported and it’s fabulous seeing our pony club members having a really good experience.”

Riders were limited to one supporter each.

“It seemed very quiet because there were no spectators allowed.”

It was disappointing not be able to include spectators, she said.

“Lots of grandparents come usually.”

Those entered in the classing events of the morning were asked to leave after their event finished unless they were taking part in the showjumping.

The showjumping was delayed an hour to limit the numbers of people on the grounds.
