Eastern Southland Embroiderers’ Guild members are stitching their way to their next exhibition.

The exhibition, which is held every two years, will be held in the Eastern Southland Art Gallery next month.

Guild president Leone Beatson said the exhibition was always popular.

‘‘They have an unbelievable number of people coming through the gallery at that time our exhibition was on.’’

The items displayed had been completed by members in the past two years.

There were a variety of traditional and contemporary techniques.

The exhibition lasts three weeks.

The group is also planning to mark World Embroidery Day on Sunday, with guild members working on their embroidery at the Gore library from 1pm to 4pm.

‘‘All interested community members would be welcome to drop in and view our work.’’

Embroidery was a therapeutic pastime, she said.

‘‘It’s needle and thread and I am calm and happy. I live for embroidery.’’
