Car buffs in their element

Mataura Scouts had a good turnout for its Motoring Mad car show on Saturday.

The annual fundraiser for the scouts was held at Tulloch Park in Mataura.

Scouts president Cody Wards said he was pleased with the support the scouts had for the event.

‘‘I think we had about 130 cars.

‘‘There’s some really nice cars there and quite a few cars that we haven’t seen here before.’’

The new one-day format of the event seemed to work well, Mr Wards said.

In the past the event had lasted for three days.

There were nine trophies to be won, including people’s choice, dirtiest car and best barn find.

At 2pm the cars left for a mystery cruise that finished in Fortrose.

Gore man Alex King took part in the event with his 1942 Ford Jeep which was used by American troops in World War 2.

The organisers had put an ‘‘outstanding’’ effort into running the show, Mr King said.

‘‘What a great day and all for the scouts.’’
