Awards approaching

The year is coming to an end, but the Gore Youth Council is as busy as ever, with the youth awards approaching on December 10.

Nominations are still open, so it is not too late to bring forward someone who you think deserves recognition.

Just a reminder that nomination applications are done through the Gore District Council website and close a week today.

Tickets are now also available for $10 online at iticket.co.nz or at the St James Theatre.

We want to see you get amongst it, Gore.

Now is the time to really celebrate youth.

Although the youth awards have been the main focus lately, we have also been working with Active Southland, the Community Connector, B&B Sports and local businesses to help install an 18-hole frisbee golf course at Hamilton Park, a three-hole frisbee golf course on the field opposite Gore Main School and a further three holes in Mataura.

We would like to thank every business that has come on board so far to sponsor the installation.

They have helped us significantly by sponsoring frisbee holes and by assisting us to get this project started within the district.

In our final term as the youth council’s graduating group, we have been involved in projects including the skate park.

We are working on getting the area revamped and hopefully getting new rubbish bins to encourage less littering in the area.

It is also our honour as youth councillors to finally host the youth awards after three years of delay because of Covid.

We are so excited for an evening of fantastic entertainment, a great host and most importantly, celebrating the fabulous young people of Gore.

Lastly, we would like to extend our gratitude to our youth council co-ordinator Mark McCann and our fellow councillors.

We wish you luck in your future endeavours.

This has been JB, Laura and Olivia, writing one last time.
