Rival goal spurs Wyndham

It took a Thistle goal to kickstart the Wyndham Town team into action on Saturday.

The division 2 Patrons Cup game was played at Wyndham with the home team prevailing 4-1.

Coach Carl Lambert said in the first half the team lacked urgency but a Thistle goal 20 minutes in changed that.

‘‘The only time we really got into gear was when we scored those two goals really quickly in about two minutes.

‘‘Once [Thistle] scored, that was the kick-starter.’’

The team went into the halftime break 2-1.

Midfielder Adam de Chateau scored two goals after the break.

‘‘The second one he literally dribbled through probably about half their team and scored,’’ Lambert said.

‘‘That topped things off.’’

In the second half the team had about 70% of the possession.

‘‘I was a lot happier with the second half than the first half.’’

Billy Gannon and de Chateau combined well in the midfield, especially as this was the first time they had played together. ‘‘I thought those two had great games,’’ Lambert said.

Wing Hoani Mulligan also played well. This Saturday, Wyndham, second on the table, will play competition leaders Queens Park.

It is the last game of the round and the winner will take home the Patrons Cup.

Two points separate the top three teams so a loss to Queens Park would put Wyndham into third place.

‘‘We’re just going to treat it as another game,’’ Lambert said.

‘‘We’ll just stick to our game, work hard and see what happens.’’
